KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) swept senate elections from Sindh. PPP-backed candidates secured 10 out of 12 seats from the province.
Despite Friday’s last minute rapprochement between its two factions, MQM-P suffered in the election. It secured only a single seat from Sindh. Sindh’s third biggest party, PML-F won the other seat.
On general seats, PPP’s outgoing Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, Mola Bakhsh Chandio, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Imamuddin Shauqeen and Mohammad Ali Jamot were elected.
Krishna Kohli and Quratulain Marri (sister of PPP MNA Shazia Marri) were elected on women’s seats. Anwar Laal Deen was elected on the minorities’ seat. Sikandar Mendhro and Rukhsana Zuberi, also from the PPP, were elected on technocrat seats. Barrister Farogh Naseem of MQM-Pakistan was elected to on a general seat, while PML-F’s Muzaffar Hussain Shah was declared victorious as well.
