The Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) announced, on Tuesday, that it would raise pensions for elderly people by 20 percent.
Previously, elderly people received Rs5,250 but now they would be receiving Rs6,500.
Earlier, Seemabia Tahir, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker of the treasury benches in Punjab Assembly had demanded that the government fix Rs10,000 as pension and ensure provision of quality facilities to aged artists who spent their entire lives in show business industry. Seemabia made her demands through a resolution she submitted in Punjab Assembly Secretariat.
The legislator had argued that artists played a phenomenal role in promoting the culture and tradition of the country and the previous government had neither done anything for them and nor introduced any policies to make their lives easier following retirement.
