ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday allowed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s Balochistan president Yar Muhammad Rind to take part in upcoming2018 General Elections.
Previously, the Balochistan High Court (BHC) disqualified Rind on the basis of having a fake degree and on the involvement in a murder case.
Today a two-member bench heard the plea filed by Rind against the BHC’s decision. SC overruled BHC’s decision and directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue him the electoral symbol.
PTI provincial president’s lawyer presented his arguments before the court and stated, “I had intentionally written in the nomination papers that the PTI Balochistan president holds a Faculty of Arts (FA) degree.
“I made a conscious decision to not mention that,” he added while referring that Rind’s previous nomination papers stated that he held a Master’s degree.
Chief Justice termed it as a little dishonest, to which Rind’s counsel replied saying “I was not being dishonest when I hid the degree certificate.”
While giving arguments regarding the murder case involvement, PTI leader’s counsel stated, “He has been granted bail in the case and I have submitted a copy of it.”
Under the lights of arguments and proves SC overruled BHC’s decision and allowed him to take part in elections.
On Tuesday, a two-member bench of the BHC declared the PTI Balochistan president ineligible to contest the polls scheduled on July 25.
